Making Limited Space Your Own
Dorm rooms offer a place to stay for college and university students that is on or near college campuses. Dorm rooms, although cramped and usually shared between random students, can be a great place to show off your personal style and make it feel a bit like home.
Imagine your bedroom at home, its decor and general feeling. Most people try to recreate that when they move away. Taking familiar wall hangings and things like frames or vases or tables might make it seem a little more home-like. Use these influences and speak with your family about making something that has pieces of your home used to make it. Something like a quilt or a fabric wall hanging might bring back some of the memories of home. What this can also accomplish is bringing a bland white wall to life. Remember to use your creativity. Most dorms come with standard issue white walls and bland decor. Use lamps with colorful bulbs or colored lampshades to add a little color to your rooms. This simple change can help enhance a mellow mood in your dorm and keep everyone's stress level down. It will also help you when it comes time for studying. Making this adjustment can help keep you focused and take in more during your study sessions. Expressing yourself in your dorm room can be the trick of a few simple adjustments and bringing in a few creature comforts from your decor at home. Not everyone has the room of their dreams at home. Rentals or frequent moves can prevent making your room feel like your own. If living in a dorm room is your chance to let go and decorate in a way that is unique to your personality then consider your options. Remember your space is limited. When choosing decor, make sure not to get anything too bulky. When hanging items like posters or religious sculptures or art, be considerate. Being yourself in this space is an extremely important part of adjusting to college life. But always be sure to communicate with your roommates first. Because roommates are selected mostly at random, you will be sharing space with, in all likelihood, a total stranger. They may or may not share your taste or likes. If they don't, you should all still be able to express your likes, religious preferences and create a home-away-from-home environment if you are open, honest and considerate.
